Connecting Lives, Building Faith, Releasing Destiny
ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
We live in a culture that is obsessed with "freedom" in the sense that we should be free to do whatever we want and free to pursue happiness in whatever way we choose. In light of that, Romans 6 can be confusing as it talks of both the freedom that we have in Christ while also referring to us as "slaves to righteousness." How can we be free while also being slaves?
The Bible is clear that throughout our lives on this earth we will always be serving something. We can either serve sin or righteousness, our "flesh" or God. Despite what the world says, there is no in-between ground where we are "free" to live however we want, serving ourselves, for if we are not serving God, we are serving sin. Without God, we are doomed to the path leading to death! Jesus has set us free from being bound to sin and death, but the only way to live in that freedom is to bind ourselves to Him! The only true freedom we can experience is by surrendering our lives over to the Lord, where we will inherit eternal life.
"But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life."
