ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Don't Dig Up Your Seeds! In the Bible, the concept of sowing and reaping, seed time and harvest, is discussed in great depth! God's Word in our hearts is described as seed being sown in the parable of the sower in Luke, chapter 8, and our faith in God is compared to a mustard seed in Matthew 17:20.
When God gives us a promise - whether through reading His word or His still, small voice speaking to our hearts - He intends for that seed to grow and produce a harvest in our lives. As the seed begins to grow, we can't see it right away. We may not see any evidence of it growing for a long time. It is out of our sight hidden just beneath the soil. But it is there.
So often in life, we can be tempted to become impatient when we have received a promise of God and dig up the seed, to see if it is indeed sprouting. We want to see the progress of the seed before it is revealed. But digging up the seed only endangers its growth and development. We need to trust that God will cause the seed to grow and sprout and bring forth a harvest. Our job is to make sure our hearts have good soil for the seeds of God's promises to grow in.
"But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." Luke 8:15 NIV.
The verse above talks about what our role is when it comes to God's promises. Hear the Word, retain (keep) the Word, and persevere.
So, while you are waiting for God's promises to come to fruition, remember to trust God. Keep meditating on His promises, persevere when doubt tries to creep in, and He will cause miracles to happen in your life.
"My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him." Psalm 62:5 NKJV
