ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
When Our Hearts Don't Match the Weather
Summer is officially here! The days are a little longer, the sky a little bluer, and the breeze a whole lot warmer! There's something about the long stretches of seemingly endless summer sun that just brings a smile to our faces. Summer is often a time of fun, relaxation, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Except that sometimes the circumstances in our lives and our hearts don't feel like they match the weather outside. Out there it's bright and sunny, but inside is cold and lonely.
Unfortunately, the trials and sorrows of life aren't limited to specific seasons of the year, and they can strike at any moment, leaving us feeling like there's a permanent rain cloud over our heads.
The Bible says in John 16:33,
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." John 16:33 NLT.
It's comforting for us to know that God knows in advance all of the trials that we will face in life and He has promised to be with us through all of them! No matter what we face or when we face it. Rain or shine, day or night. He is with us. And He still has great things in store for us.
The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:18 that "our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."
So, when our lives are feeling more like winter than summer, we can rest in the promise that God holds our hearts, and that there are more sunny days ahead.
