ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Speak Life
In their neuroscience experiment, "Do Words Hurt?", Maria Richter and other collaborating scientists studied how subjects' brains responded to hearing or imagining negative words & images. The findings all found that negative words released stress and anxiety-inducing hormones in the participants.
There have been many studies like this one that show the power that negative, fear-filled words can have over us and how they can go on to affect our minds, our beliefs, and eventually the outcome of our lives.
We shouldn't be surprised. The Bible is very clear on the impact of our choices when it comes to what we speak (and allow to be spoken) over our lives.
Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!"
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)
That is a very powerful command! We may think that indulging in occasional negative self-talk or dwelling on discouragement for a little while isn't that big of a deal. But according to the verse above, (and the studies that have been done), it is all a choice between life and death in every situation. The study above found that even thinking or imagining negative images can affect our minds and bodies in negative ways.
This doesn't mean that we will never have discouraging negative thoughts that will come into our minds. We live in a world that does a pretty good job of reminding us every day of all of the trouble that there is out there. But we do get to choose for every word and every image that comes into our minds what we will do with it. Will we entertain those thoughts, or will we go to God's Word and speak what Christ has said about these things?
So, every time a negative thought enters our minds this week, let's quickly take them captive and speak God's Word instead. Let's choose to speak life!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
.jpg "Mom's Morning Out Slide (1)") Morning Out For Moms starts tomorrow, Wednesday, October 2nd from 9:00 - 11:00 am at One Life Church!Moms of babies, toddlers, & school-age children are invited to come out and enjoy a time of connection, encouragement, and studying the Word of God together! The group will be going through a devotional, and the coffee and tea will be on! Pies Pick-Up for the Ethiopia Mission Trip Fundraiser is this Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 AM at One Life Church! We will be having a Connection Sunday on October 13, 2024! It is also OLC's 22nd Anniversary! God is so good and there is so much to celebrate and be thankful for! Plan to stay after the service for some goodies and fellowship. Let's all get to know each other a little better! Joining a Connect Group is a great way to stay connected to God's Word and other believers throughout your week!
