ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
We Carry This Great Treasure There was a family that would often take walks together by the river near their home.
One sunny afternoon as they were walking down by the river, they stopped, as they often would, to throw rocks into the water. The rocks in that area were often covered in dirt and dust and were all a similar shape and color. As the family was gathering up rocks to throw in the river, the father spied a rock that was cracked down the middle.
The family gathered around as he pried the rock open, and they were all surprised to see small pieces of quartz sparkling on the inside of the rock. Intrigued, the family spent the next couple of hours gathering up rocks - not to throw them in the river - but to try to break them apart to see if they could see more quartz or other glittering pieces inside the rocks.
To their surprise, many of the otherwise dull, dirty rocks on the shore held tiny, sparkling gem-like stones inside of them.
Our lives can often look and feel like those rocks. Ordinary on the outside, but filled with treasures inside placed there by God.
2 Corinthians 4:7 says,
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our power is from God, not from ourselves.
Like those rocks that the family found, let's take a closer look and see the immense treasure that God has placed inside the hearts and lives of those around us, and inside of us as well!
"We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our power is from God, not from ourselves."2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)
