ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Ever Green There is something about evergreen trees. Not only do they fill countless homes with the fragrance and festive feeling of Christmas while dressed in lights and decor, but their stately green stature stands out regally against the gray winter skyline. They also provide shelter for birds, animals, and humans in the cold.
Maybe the most curious thing of all about evergreen trees is that they don't change. Winter to spring, to summer, to fall, they stay the same through every season. Their green boughs stretch out unchanged no matter what comes and goes around them.
The Bible talks a lot about such trees. The cedars of Lebanon are evergreen trees that are mentioned many times in the scriptures. They are cone-producing trees that can grow up to 120 feet tall and spread their branches out horizontally 30 to 50 feet from the trunk! Cedars of Lebanon are known for their strength and resilience, and their high-quality wood.
In Psalm 92:12-14 the Bible says, But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the LORD'S own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age, they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.
God compares us to those trees. Because of His gift of love and life inside of us, through Jesus, we can be like those evergreen trees, clothed with strength and grace from God to walk through every season this new year will bring.
"But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like cedars of Lebanon... they will remain vital and green." Psalm 92:12 & 14b (NLT)
