ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Recipe for (not disaster)! Many of us know the old saying "That's a recipe for disaster!"
It refers to anticipating the results of a situation as likely to end badly based on the factors involved.
For example, if you were to attempt to make a batch of sugar cookies and you had no flour or sugar, that might literally be a recipe for disaster!
On the other hand, sometimes the most unique and delicious creations have been made purely by accident. It may be hard to believe, but chocolate chip cookies, popsicles, and Worcestershire Sauce are a few such examples. When they were first created, none of them were expected to turn into the popular items that they are today.
Sometimes, in life, we can look at a situation and recognize all of the signs of a disaster in the making! And sometimes, that is the wisdom of God warning us of a potential storm or mistake that we should avoid.
But sometimes, even when we think that a situation is doomed for failure, God has a plan of hope and peace in the midst of it.
So before we are tempted to shout disaster over a situation, let's take time to ask God for His thoughts on it. Then let's speak life-giving words over the situation according to what God shows us through prayer and His Word.
Psalm 91:9-10 says: If you say, "The Lord is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
This Christmas season, look for God to show you how those situations in your life that seem like recipes for disaster might actually be blessings in disguise!
"If you say, "The Lord is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent." Psalm 91:9-10 (NIV)
