Have Faith In God
There's a great story in the book of Matthew, chapter 14, about Jesus' disciples struggling in a boat as strong winds and heavy waves were surrounding them. 
(See Matthew 14:23 - 33)

In the story, Jesus had stayed on land and went up into the hills by Himself to pray.

But the disciples were in the boat trying to keep it afloat amid the storm, and suddenly, through the darkness and the spray from the waves, they saw Jesus coming towards them - walking on the water! 

Jesus called out to them to not be afraid and to take courage, for it was Him.

Then Peter called out to Jesus, saying "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water."
(Matt 14:28)

Jesus responded for Peter to come. 

So, Peter jumped out of the boat and started walking toward Jesus. And as long as he had his eyes on the Lord, he stayed up walking on the water. At some point, though, Peter started to look at the giant waves towering around him and felt the wind whipping past his face and he became terrified and began to sink. He called out to Jesus, and the Lord saved him, chiding him for his lack of faith.  

While we might be tempted to look at Peter in this story and be disappointed at His lack of faith, how often in our own lives, do we focus our attention on the troubles surrounding us just like the waves surrounded Peter? How often is the Lord giving us an invitation to come out and walk on the water with Him, but we keep our eyes on the storm?

Jesus never asked Peter to pretend that the storm wasn't there. He simply wanted Peter to look to Him in the midst of the storm and trust Him.

Lord, when we face storms in our lives this week, help us to take them as opportunities to put our faith and trust in you!
